Order types

Categorise sales orders by purpose

An order type is a label on a sales order that says what kind of order it is - and, more usefully, lets the rest of the system treat it differently.

Onboarding creates two: Normal (the default) and Express.

Configuring

Settings → Order types. Each type has a name, a colour, a sort order, and a flag for whether it is the default for new orders.

What order types are used for

  • Filtering the order list and the pack queue
  • Pick profiles - route express orders to their own pick list so they are picked first
  • Shipping templates - an integration rule can pick a different template based on order type, so express orders book an express service
  • Reporting - split volumes and pick and pack times by type

Setting the type on an order

  • Manually, on the order.
  • Automatically, with order type rules on an integration connection, which set the type from the order's contents - for example, an order whose shipping line says express becomes an Express order.

Advice

Keep the list short. Order types earn their place when something downstream acts on them; a type nobody filters by or routes on is just a coloured chip.
