What happens between signing up and shipping your first order

Signing up takes two screens. Everything else happens inside the app, on your own schedule, from the Getting started checklist.

The two setup screens

Company and contact. Your company name, the person we should contact, and your address. The address is reused as your warehouse address in the next step, so you only type it once.

Region and warehouse. Base currency, timezone and default tax rate, then your first warehouse.

The warehouse address is required, and this is not bureaucracy: carriers reject a booking whose sender address is incomplete. Collecting it here means the failure happens on a form you are already filling in, rather than on your first real shipment.

You can add more warehouses later under Settings → Warehouses. Every other setting has a sensible default and can be changed whenever you like.

The Getting started checklist

After setup you land on the dashboard with a checklist. It is not a wizard - nothing is blocking, and the steps are worked out from what actually exists in your account rather than from boxes you tick. Delete your only warehouse and the warehouse step reopens.

The checklist disappears once you have shipped an order. You can reopen it any time from Getting started in the sidebar.

Required to ship your first order

  1. Connect your sales channel - orders and products flow in from your store. Everything after this gets easier once it is connected. See Shopify.
  2. Import your products - pull your catalogue from the connected store, or add products by hand if you sell somewhere else.
  3. Put stock on the shelf - record what you physically have. Orders cannot be picked against stock the system does not know about. See Stock adjustments.
  4. Bring in your orders - see the cutoff note below.
  5. Complete your warehouse address - carriers reject a booking from an incomplete sender address. See Warehouses.
  6. Set up shipping - activate an MPH standard agreement to ship without your own carrier account, or add your own carrier credentials. See Carrier configurations.

Step 6 stays locked until step 5 is done, because a shipment cannot be booked without a complete sender address.

The order import cutoff

When you connect a store, MPH records the moment you connected as your go-live cutoff. Orders placed before that point are never imported, so years of order history stay where they are instead of flooding your new warehouse.

You can move the cutoff under Settings → Integrations → your connection. To pull one specific older order without moving it, use Test with one order and give the order number - that deliberately bypasses the cutoff for that order only.

These are not required to ship, but most operations want them:

  • Top up your shipping wallet - bookings on an MPH agreement are charged from the wallet and are rejected when it runs out.
  • Create a shipping template - needed for Quick Ship and pick-and-ship auto-booking. Without one, picked orders wait for manual booking. See Shipping templates.
  • Invite your team - pickers and packers get their own logins, and you can limit what each of them sees. See Team.
  • Install the print client - prints labels straight to a label printer instead of going through the browser dialog. See Printer client.
  • Add your billing details - used on invoices and receipts.

Steps you do not want are skippable, and skipped steps can be restored from the Getting started page.
