Assign to location

Putaway, built for someone holding a scanner in one hand and a box in the other. You pin a location once, then scan item after item into it.

This assigns pick locations on the item, which is what pick lists sort by. See pick locations.

Locations are per warehouse. If you run more than one, a warehouse selector appears in the header - check it before you start scanning, because it decides which building the locations are recorded in. It defaults to your own warehouse from Settings → Account.

Step 1 - the location

A single large field: Location (e.g. A-01-01 or 2-1-1). The hint follows the location code format set under Settings → General, which can be numeric, alphanumeric, or unrestricted.

Three ways to enter it:

• Scan a location barcode
• Type it
• Read text with camera - OCR, for shelves labelled with printed text rather than a barcode

Step 2 - the items

The location is pinned in a banner at the top with a Change button, and the field moves to items. Scan a SKU or any of the item's barcodes, repeatedly.

• A large green panel confirms SKU → location, and a red one explains what went wrong.
• If a code matches more than one item you get a multiple matches, pick one list rather than a guess.
• A running session log shows Assigned to <location> (N) so you can see what you have done without leaving the screen.

The screen is locked full-screen on purpose. There is nothing to mis-tap while you are working.

Practical notes

• An item can hold several pick locations per warehouse. The first one in a warehouse is its primary and is what picking there sorts by; reorder them on the item if you need to change which that is.
• The same shelf code can exist in two warehouses without clashing - they are separate records.
• Location labels can be printed from a location label template. See Print templates.
• No special permission is needed, so temporary staff can do putaway without being given stock rights.
